Melissa spent her childhood years writing adventure stories in her bedroom, pretending her backyard was the set of the film Romancing the Stone—she was writer Joan Wilder, of course—and planning on one day becoming a professional wordsmith with touching stories to share. Today, you can find her sailing for months at a time in the Caribbean or road tripping obsessively. Although most of the time, she's holed up inside an office of sorts in the mountains of Puerto Rico, where she writes nonfiction essays and articles. She goes out to the world to compile her stories and then disappears to digest them and write them all down. Melissa now pens stories for print and online publications, including Lonely Planet, Matador Network, MasterCard, Princess Cruises, USA Today’s 10Best, SF Gate and others. She married a Jack T. Colton type.
